i’m in it with you

Every physical therapist looking to develop a relationship with a new client has a schtick, a pitch, to let the client know how they are different. A simple message stating how they can help in a way that no one else can. Here’s mine: I’m in it with you.

Injuries are challenging and at times difficult to manage. Patients often feel as though their body has let them down. Depression is a common condition that emerges as patients feel they have lost a part of themselves. The frustration of losing an ability can be consuming and may require another pair of hands to get out of it.

I spend most of my days assisting people in these situations. One of the more notable behaviors I demonstrate with my clients is that I am consumed in my desire to help them through it. During an hour-long session, solving that problem is the only thing on my mind. We are going to battle together, we both have skin in the game, and we are going to work at solving this problem.

The dynamics of the situation create focus, they require that I pay attention to one thing, helping you. In a treatment session, interventions are applied, and we study how you respond, which leads to the next decision. This goes on until we have come to some sort of solution for the day. If needed, we repeat on a different day. It is an all-encompassing interplay that results in two people working to achieve the desired outcome.
