Why I don’t take Insurance: Radical Locality
Amazon has changed the world. The expectation that packages are delivered in two days from a retailer with almost anything you could ask for, is a new phenomenon. One that has taken over nearly every industry. We now expect workers to work faster, with little time to consider the product or the recipient. Physical therapy is no different.
The predominant model controlling physical therapy is one in which seeing more patients, and providing a minimal effective product is the industry standard. The insurance model dictates that. The race to the bottom has been won, with the result being a low-level service and many customers feeling they have been misled.
I want to change the model. To do my best work that leaves my patients feeling satisfied. I am interested in radically altering my local community, giving something back that is more representative of what my community deserves. To do that, I must leave insurance behind.
